The disinfectant and sample chemistry matter
Free chlorine, total chlorine and chlorine dioxide are not interchangeable measurement targets. Selection depends on the disinfectant, concentration range, sample pH, conductivity, temperature and whether a controlled flow-cell installation is available.

Confirm these conditions before selection
Concentration range
Provide normal dosing concentration and the maximum expected level.
Sample chemistry
Confirm pH, conductivity, temperature and whether the sample is freshwater or seawater.
Flow and calibration
Plan the flow cell, stable sample flow and reference test used for slope calibration.
