01

Select for solids range and the real process point

Optical solids measurement depends on the target, concentration range, particle distribution, sludge homogeneity, bubbles, velocity, mounting and cleaning—not only a maximum mg/L value.

02

Confirm these conditions before selection

Measurement target

Identify suspended solids, mixed-liquor suspended solids or concentrated sludge.

Minimum to peak range

Provide minimum, normal, peak and alarm mg/L values.

Process and homogeneity

Confirm process point, particle distribution, bubbles, settling and sludge homogeneity.

Mounting and interfaces

Provide pressure, velocity, material, cleaning, cable, 4–20 mA, relays and RS485 requirements.

Suspended-solids and sludge selection questions

How should I choose between PSS-800 and PSS-600?+

Use the target, minimum-to-peak range, homogeneity, process point and mounting. PSS-800 covers wider and higher documented ranges; PSS-600 uses a slimmer sensor.

Why is sludge homogeneity important?+

Optical readings are affected by particle distribution, bubbles and sludge homogeneity, so the real process condition must be confirmed with the range.
